Content Vs Connection

There are all kinds of blogs on the internet. Fashion, foodie, mom blogs, etc. I follow all kinds and have been for awhile. DISCLAIMER: I support any blogger who puts themselves out there because I know that it can be extremely taxing, this is not blogger-shaming- this is content shaming.

There’s all kinds of posts out there that are curated and worked on for awhile to look the way that they do. Along with that, they’re also almost always sponsored. While I 100% believe in making an income through this platform, I’m noticing a huge growing trend in only posting about things regardless of the type of blog someone has. What skincare they’re using, makeup, clothing, the list goes on. There’s a sort of unspoken message that comes with it that implies their credibility through the specific kinds of products they use. It’s sort of become the modern day “Stars! They’re just like us!” from those old trashy magazines.

A blog or an Instagram post can be a portal into someone else’s life. It’s an entertaining aspect of social media, imo.

However, every picture posted on Instagram is now an opportunity to show what shoes they bought that week or to display the recent big purchase they’ve made and I. WANT. MORE. I want to read about what life is teaching them, what advice they have for people, overall- I just want richer content, pun intended.

Seeing such a spike in this kind of activity, it inspires me to create content that will actually entice people and that doesn’t so much promote that buying things brings happiness but that happiness can be achieved without spending money.

I know, an unbelievable statement coming from me. Yes, I have posted about my favorites and the things that have purchased but, those are my most unpopular posts, statistically speaking. So that has to say something, at the very least. I really try and put out a variety of content because I happen to have a variety of interests that I enjoy writing about.

My main point is that I don’t want people scrolling through popular blogger girls feeds thinking that the only way to fulfill life is to take these extravagant pictures in the new clothes that they bought.

I want people to see the real and the raw. The inspiring and hardworking bloggers. While I enjoy shopping as much as the next blogger, I feel like boasting constantly about what you think people should have just because you have it is somewhat toxic and leads to a consumerism fueled blog and nothing else. Tell me the recipe of what you made for dinner that your family liked. Tell me a workout regimen that’s been working for you lately. Show me how you dealt with a huge problem in life. Tell me a time when you were brave or filled with courage. BE. INSPIRING.

This new toxicity I feel on instagram has caused me to kind of step back from posting and especially trying to work with brands. Because while getting paid to blog would be amazing and its something that I would love to do, even if I did get there- I don’t want to bombard my followers with what they should be buying from me just because I have it. I just don’t think its worth it to do something that would blend me into the crowd of consumer-bloggers.

However, I respect the hell out of the blogging game and anyone that’s willing to put in the work to do it, for real and I don’t want that to get lost in what I’m attempting to convey. I love photography and cooking and shopping and talking about topics that really matter to me; I just want that to reflect that differently from every other blogger because that’s just my vision for my blog. It may not align with everyone else’s but that doesn’t make it any better of a blog.

I’m not trying to make myself sound soo much better than these other blogs or play the comparison game, I just personally feel this is an untapped topic that inspired me to write it down and see what you guys thought. Do you come on here to get inspired for what to buy next? Do you look forward to sponsored posts?? I’m curious;

-Thoughts??? Comments?? I’d love to know what you guys think about this topic.

XOXO,

I don’t want your money, I want your creativity.
